Rant

Today was meant to be the day that I began some thoughts on 1 Cor 12-14.

But you may have to wait a day or two extra I'm afraid.

Because I have to rant.

Hayley and I got a dvd the other night.

Unfortunately, I can't boast an epiphany like my brother with 'Once'.

We got out the third in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. We had seen the first 2 and we thought nothing could suck as much as the second one. We were wrong.

Now I know, it's not the sort of flick known for it's depth etc etc etc - but I thought it would be at least watchable!

My Rant is as follows:

  • The plot was so muddled I think it may have technically made sense if you plotted the think on a flow chart, but to the average watcher - it was just bizzare (And I'm not one of those guys who doesn't get movies)

  • Some characters where used as the premise for whole sub plots and then they die or just disappear and . . .that's it?!

  • Weird things never got explained and so continued to make no sense once the movie ended.

I know I may be expecting too much, but all I ask for is for a writer (or writers) to earn their millions of bucks. Just make the damn thing make SENSE for crying out aloud! It's not that hard!

AAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Well, rant is over. I learnt my lesson though - more art house for me. Sure, they are in french and you see peoples bottoms, but at least you get the feeling that the guy who wrote it actually cares that you are spending your bucks to go see it.

(as it turns out, the skull and crossbones are there for a reason)

Scotty! Cass and I watched this on the way back to Australia before Christmas. I couldn't sleep after it for the lack of plot consistency, unrealised character development, and a crappy ending. Surely they could have had some last minute plot revelation that because they got married at the end he no longer had to ferry the dead and could see her more than once every ten years? I mean, come on! I want a happy ending! I want some of the loose ends to tie up! I waited THREE whole movies to see the good guy get the girl! Or at least let Johnny Depp have her if the other guy can't! I share your disappointment and am also aware of the fact that you and I have seen some pretty average movies with you, but this one took the cake. (do you remember skipping uni to see that Ray Liota movie where he is trying to get off an island or something? That was average...)
btw, "Once" absolutely floored me. Immediately in the top 5...
Miss you.

hey scott

i haven't left a message here in ages but when i saw this post i was compelled to share your pain. by the end of the almost three hours i was actually angry - angry that the movie had a) put me to sleep (what was with that whole weird fighting/'let's get married' during a sword fight on a sinking ship scene???) and thus had lost precious dollars and b) angry at myself that i was stupid enough to go and see a movie solely because i was so ticked off at the way the 2nd ended i wanted some resolution....

hope you guys are all well
God bless
j.

Hey Scott, it's a bit of a late comment on a post written in Feb!!
I fell asleep during the movie - that should give you an idea of what I thought of it!!
I do have a few of those french movies with bare bums, if you'd like to boorow them for some artistic depth!!
Smiles... Ingrid
