Can anyone help me?

I am a bad Australain.

I have no clue about what the heck is happening in regards to the politcal landscape of my country. (or maybe that means I am a good Australian - not sure)

I know we have a new PM - and intentd to do what I can to get to know him as soon as I can - ie google him.

I'm not sure why he won, if he is any different to the old PM and what all the fuss is about.

Can someone help me, or show me where I can go to get some help?

Scott

Johnny got to big for his boots, didn't realise he couldn't buy votes without any substantial policies, tried anyway and lost to the cantonese speaking, strip club visiting, Mr Me Too, Kevin Rudd who looks very much like a south park character.
The fact that the policies were pretty much the same didn't seem to matter. Apparently the ALP is going to change everything when the get in anyway (according to Peter Garret who made the comments "as a joke"). In related news the market surged 90 points on Monday indicating that big business has confidence in Rudd. I think he is pretty good but time will tell....

Check out his acceptance speech - you'll find it on www.kevin07.com - that should give you an idea.

I'm interested that Tony thinks that Kevin's acceptance speech would give an idea of what and why it happened. The speech was good and normal for an acceptance speech (Perhaps too many cliches), but didn't give a run down.

I think that, in addition to Ev's comments, you need these things:

1. Rudd was a credible alternative PM (unlike Latham). Conservative, really. And not apparently arrogant.
2. Howard held on too long and didn't allow for change.
3. The public punished the Liberals for it (and just the fact that its been 11 years).
4. Costello and Vaile will not contest leadership, and that means that the coalition have got a long way to go to get back on track.

I think that the gloating over Howard losing his seat is not quite fair. His seat was marginal, and it suffered the same swing as on a National level. This is not the same as Stanley Bruce in 1929.

There is a multimedia presentation here. (With a summary half way through.)

And I think that this is good too.

Now Dr Brendan Nelson and Julia Bishop are the alternative PM and deputy-PM.

Who, you say?

Exactly!

(You voted for or against Nelson in Bradfield, of course.)

Check the Sydney Morning Herald.

THis all helpful?

There was a big blurb on Rudd (New PM) in the SMH recently, being the most overtly Christian PM ever. The church he goes to seems to be High Anglican from what I can gather. I'm sure you can still find the article online. Apparently though his son-in-law, Albert who is a Asian Australian from HK was googled more on election night than Rudd or Howard.
