No TV

We've done it.

We've made a stand.

No TV after 7pm at night.

For the next week. (I've long ago learnt my lesson about unrealistic goals).

Which for me is basically no TV (Hayley sometimes slips in a Dr Phil at lunch if she can).
Last night, as Hayley wrote a talk, I spoke to a friend back from OS and then read lots of my book. But after that I couldn't get to sleep.

Still with 1 night down, 6 to go, I'm feeling good.

But (for all you fans out there) I am haunted by the words of Homer . . .

"No TV and no beer make Homer go mad!"

Good thing I haven't given up beer.

We felt like lab rats. Ben to bed, eat food, sit and stare. Not a great existence. We thought talking might be a nice way to spend an evening. Or for that matter anything else! Read, make plans, pray, cuddle, sleep etc. I'll let you know how it goes.

We might have to extend the experiment becuase at the moment I am entering day 25 with only 1 day off so most nights are still out working. Likwe i said, not a great existense.

Good luck. I have the upmost confidence in you - you could call it fasting and make it spiritual!!

Be strong. Ordinary life can be pretty complex stuff, who has time for watching American families live unrealistic lives.

It's 38 degress, I'm writing a sermon from wo to go. I am starting to feel the pressure, but I have finally worked out the key sentance!! Praise the Lord that he provides thoughts to the foolish.

hey scott - can i just say, great choice to make! i was thinking about it the other day and for as long as i can remember my parents have always had the tv on while we had dinner. this means that, to an extent, we really don't know how to relate at the dinner table (without other people being there of course) if the tv isn't on. we sit in virtual silence... not the greatest pattern to set.
by doing this you're setting up something wonderful for you family - communication. go for it!

Scott - we are about to enter the 3rd year of our lives with no TV in the house. Yes i miss watching the news, the good sporting events (although I usually go to the pub or get together with mates for it), and the mindless chill out time ... but I think less TV is more life! We still watch a few DVD's on our iMac, but I think it's more intentional when we do, rather than the default. To be honest, I don't know how I would fit in 2-3 hours of it a day - other stuff to do and enjoy... Go Hard!
